Another week, another Round Up.
Sorry it’s been awhile since my last post. I haven’t been feeling the greatest, so I didn’t really have the drive to write anything (I’ve also been playing a crap ton of Diablo 3 & WOW but that’s beside the point). This one’s gonna be short and sweet because I have two summaries to write for one of my English courses.
Let’s see what’s going on this week……
Incredibles 2 Teaser Trailer
The Incredibles, probably my favorite Disney movie of all time (and just one of my favorite movies in general) is finally getting a sequel! We had a bit of a hint at Jack Jacks powers at the end of the first film, with more of an understanding in the short film that accompanied the home video release. According to the IMDB description, Bob (Crag T. Nelson) is at home taking care of Jack while Helen (Holly Hunter) is out saving the world. It seems like this one will be putting the Incredible baby front and center, which isn’t a bad thing. He’s just so cute and has no idea what his powers are capable of that I’m sure it’s going to provide plenty of laughs for everyone.

Justice League opens this weekend
I’m really excited to see this one. Despite everyone who has hated the DCEU so far, I’ve enjoyed the films (Suicide Squad was a bit of a blunder). According to box office reports, it’s tracking to make an underwhelming $94 million for its opening weekend. This saddens me to no end. This is the film that comic book fans like myself have been waiting for, and it’s going to make less then a $100 million? I’m not sure what Warner Bros. needs to do to get things on track but this does not bode well for the franchise. I know it’s been rushed but I’ve enjoyed it. There’s also rumors that Ben Affleck is looking to step down from his role as Batman and have someone (Jake Gyllenhal is rumored) to take his place. It also doesn’t help that movie reviewers feel the need to bash the franchise whenever they get the chance. It’s just such a mess. Hopefully it will find its footing so the masses can properly enjoy it.

Thor: Ragnarok Rocks
I’ll be the first to admit, I’m not a big Thor fan. I might own a couple of the older comics from when I was younger. The first film in the MCU was alright, the 2nd one was actually pretty terrible. When I was going into this one, my expectations were set super low. What had me excited was the director, Taika Waititi (What We Do In The Shadows). He’s only made indie films, and directed a few episodes of The Inbetweeners. I was excited to see how his brand of film making would transition to a big studio production. I gotta say, he’s done a remarkable job. He’s made a film that I thoroughly enjoyed and would easily place among my favorite MCU movies. It doesn’t take itself seriously, and fully embraces the crazy. It also uses Led Zeppelins ‘Immigrant Song’ really well. Definitely check this one out.

World of Warcraft has new expansion announced
I know this was announced on November 3rd, but my wife and I are pumped. We’ve played our high level Horde characters to death on Kul Tiras, so we decided to create new Alliance characters on Proudmoore. The features announced sound cool, but they haven’t been talked about in great detail. The one that has us most excited though is the 6 new playable races, 3 for each faction. Horde will be receiving the Nightborn Elves, Highmountain Tauren & Zandalari Trolls. Alliance will be receiving Void Elves, Dark Iron Dwarves & Light Forged Draenei. What’s interesting to me is how you unlock these new races. They won’t be available to use immediately after you install the new expansion. You’ll have to unlock them by doing specific quests depending on your faction. It adds a bit of story telling you often don’t find in WOW (it’s like they’re taking the good things from FFXIV, which is fine with me, good job Blizz) and adding it in. Hence why we’ve started Alliance characters. It wouldn’t be fun to not have access to all the new races right? There currently isn’t a release date for the expansion yet, but I assume it will be released next year.
Marvel Heroes Omega is shutting down
After only being out for a couple of months, the console version of Marvel Heroes (as well as the PC version) is being shut down. There were rumors of sexual harassment allegations (2017, the year of sexual harassment) happening within developer Gazillion. After the Loki character pack was released, Gazillion fell silent on the forums. It didn’t bode well for players, and now we know why. I’m currently writing a separate post on my thoughts for all this. It’s a shame because it was a solid action RPG I really enjoyed. I’m hopeful we will get something like this game again in the future.
That’s it for The Round Up, until next time! – NVJ
