The Round Up – July 27th, 2017

Another week, another Round Up.

I’m dubbing this the ‘Trailer Edition’ of The Round Up.  Why?  Because there’s just so many damn good trailers this week!  Comic-Con has come and gone.  Lots of great announcements came out of it though.  Avengers: Infinity War was showcased again (still no online trailer released sadly), Game of Thrones is getting a spin-off series (the current season of GOT is off to a great start as well).  With all the announcements, these trailers were the ones that got me hyped.  One of them just released today, and it will most likely (probably……..definitely) make you shat in your pantaloons.

Here’s the trailers that have me excited for the coming year(s) in movies.

New ‘IT’ trailer is 2 spooky 4 me

There’s a lot of jump scares to be had in this new trailer for the Stephen King adaptation.  It does look terrifying though.  Pennywise (Bill Skarsgard) looks menacing.  Helpless kids trying to fight a ruthless clown.  It has all the ingredients for a great horror movie.  I’ll be checking it out on September 8th just like everybody else in the world will.  Hopefully it lives up to the enormous hype.  The original was freaky until you find out what he actually is.  Special effects should be able to redeem that flaw.

IT opens in theaters on September 8th, 2017.

‘Stranger Things 2’ Comic Con Trailer

I can’t wait for this one.  My wife and I binge watched the first season, like many others I imagine.  I figure this season will be no different (bless you Netflix).  The kids are back, and things seem to be getting even stranger (get it?).  Also, any trailer that plays with ‘Thriller’ as its soundtrack and shows off some cool Ghostbuster stuff, earns major bonus points.

Stranger Things 2 premieres October 27th, 2017 on Netflix.

‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Comic Con Trailer

Is it just me, or am I getting some major Guardians of the Galaxy vibes with this trailer?  It looks hilarious, which director Taika Waititi (What We Do In The Shadows) is best known for.  I’ve never been a fan of any of the Thor movies, so I’m hoping this one will redeem itself.  His relationship with Hulk is one of the highlights of the MCU and I’m happy they’re focusing on it for this adventure.

Thor: Ragnarok opens in theaters on November 3rd, 2017

‘Justice League’ Comic Con Trailer

I’m a DC fanboy first and foremost.  I have no problem admitting I loved Batman V Superman and Man of Steel.  Suicide Squad was……….. just alright (it hurts to say that, but it’s true).  Zack Snyder is all about the awesome visuals and Justice League looks like it’s going to continue that trend.  I’m also really glad he’s ditched the slow motion that he was known for.  I can’t wait for this.  Flash looks hilarious.  Aquaman kicks all kinds of ass.  Definitely a must see.

Justice League opens in theaters on November 17th, 2017.

‘Ready Player One’ Comic Con Trailer

The book was really great.  There were some references to pop culture I didn’t get, but it was still a fantastic read.  The virtual world the story takes place in called ‘The Oasis’ is frighteningly close to being a reality.  It also really reminded me of Sword Art Online (which isn’t a bad thing).  With Stephen Spielberg in the directors chair, it should be nothing short of amazing.

Ready Player One opens in theaters March 30th, 2018.

‘Bright’ looks pretty damn cool

I know I said I wasn’t a fan of Suicide Squad.  However, director David Ayer’s (Fury, End of Watch) new film ‘Bright’ looks pretty amazing.  It looks like it could redeem his DCEU failure.  It’s a mixture of fantasy and present times.  Will Smith and Joel Edgerton are in it.  Nuff said.

Bright premieres December 22nd, 2017 on Netflix.

That’s it for The Round Up, until next time! – NVJ
