The Round Up – July 14th, 2017

Another week, another Round Up.

There’s no structure to these things anymore.  Typically I was trying to do them every Tuesday.  Last week was on a Wednesday.  This week it’s on a Friday.  Its total anarchy (not at all).  Lately, I’ve been getting some major gearing up done in FFXIV.  I just hit 70 on my PLD, who’s currently sitting at 299 ilvl.  One more dungeon run and I should be good to try him out on the new Extremes.  I’ve also been playing a lot of Mario Kart 8 with the kids.  The Wii U is still getting a ton of love in our household.

Let’s see what’s caught my eye this week.

Marvel Heroes Omega announces VIP program

maxresdefault (12)

This is pretty awesome.  Anyone who already has, or is going to make an in-game purchase or buy a Founder’s Pack for Marvel Heroes Omega will be eligible for the VIP program.  This is for FOREVER (forever ever).  The goodies you get in this include:

  • Nightcrawler as a playable hero
  • 5% bonus XP & credits
  • 1 free Marvelous Loot Box
  • 5 Eternity Splinters per day on log in
  • 10 stash tabs

You could literally spend $5 and get this stuff for life!  It’s a great little promotion and a great way to support a game developer.  We love this game and the future keeps looking brighter.  Now please just bring villains to consoles and I’ll be a happy boy (Carnage!).

First set photo for ‘Ready Player One’ film released

READY PLAYER ONE

The first set photo for Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of the novel ‘Ready Player One’ was released today, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly.  It’s only one photo, but it’s already looking faithful to the source material.  Tye Sheridan plays the treasure seeker/main character Wade Watts.  Pictured in his van hideout, Wade is wearing the OASIS rig, which is comprised of a VR visor and a pair of haptic gloves. If you haven’t read the book, Ready Player One is about a treasure hunt through a virtual world called ‘The Oasis’.  The creator of The Oasis, James Halliday, has left 3 hidden keys in the world.  Whoever is the first to find these keys will become the new ruler of the world.  There’s tons of 80’s references.  It’s a great book, but it’s a pretty grim look at the future.  Hopefully we don’t become a world obsessed with our own Oasis.  Ready Player One releases in theaters March 30th, 2018.

Your thoughts on casual gaming!

FFXIV_Shinryu_2

The response to my post When does casual gaming become TOO casual?’ has been overwhelming.  Lots of different takes on the FFXIV: Stormblood-Shinryu fight.  If you haven’t checked it out, be sure to chime in.  I love reading everyone’s different takes on the subject.

New content coming to Final Fantasy XIV on Tuesday

A new Official Blog Post showed up for FFXIV today.  It’s in Japanese (and was poorly translated by Google when I read it).  It states that we are getting a new type of dungeon, like the Aquapolis!  I can only assume you’re going to be able to get one of the cute little catfish guys as a minion.  Personally I want Alpha as a minion, but I’m thinking he’ll show up as a reward at the end of Omega (fingers crossed).

War for the Planet of the Apes starts today

I was surprised when the reboot became a success.  It seemed like Fox was beating a dead horse.  Good thing for us, they’re fantastic.  Andy Serkis is brilliant as Caesar.  With Matt Reeves directing, I can only see this one being just as good, if not better, than the previous one.  It’s also promising for the Batman film that he will be directing.  Will you be seeing it this weekend?

Game of Thrones starts on Sunday!

It’s been a long wait.  I’m expecting big things from these last two seasons.  We’ve got all the big characters coming into play.  I wasn’t too optimistic that we were getting a shortened season, but I can only assume they had more budget to work with (those dragons man).  I’m expecting some crazy battles.  Will you be tuning in?

That’s it for The Round Up, until next time! – NVJ
